In my attempts at communication,
I try to remember that
if I want someone to agree with me,
or respect my opinion,
I won't get what I want by insulting them
or judging them superficially
or attacking their point of view.

The only chance communication has
is if we discuss common ground,
earn respect and trust by giving it,
stating points of view clearly and positively
and focusing on mutual interests and benefits
as much as possible.

Anything else is a waste of time
unless I simply wish to fight.
